Junk Doctors was founded in June 2011 by fourth-generation Cary native Lee Godbold, whose strong connection to the local community helped shape the company’s values from the beginning. Lee grew up surrounded by public service and civic involvement—his grandfather served on the Cary Town Council for 16 years—and that same commitment to serving neighbors continues to guide Junk Doctors today.
Before launching the company, Lee worked as a manager at Jellybeans Skating Rink in Cary. Facing rising fuel costs and a decision about whether to sell his pickup truck, he chose instead to put it to work helping local residents remove unwanted items. What started as a simple idea quickly became the foundation for what is now one of North Carolina’s most recognized locally owned junk removal companies.
From One Truck to a Trusted Regional Service Provider
In the early days, Lee distributed flyers throughout the community and began receiving steady calls from homeowners needing help with cleanup projects. Within just two weeks, demand made it possible to purchase the company’s first trailer. A few months later, that trailer was replaced with a larger one as the business continued to grow.
Soon after, Christian Fowler joined the company as Vice President, and together they purchased the first official Junk Doctors truck—nicknamed Big Bird One for its bright yellow color and towering height. That investment marked the transition from a small hauling operation into a structured and expanding service company.
