January: When Everyone’s Old Electronics Come Due
Christmas creates a specific problem. New TV, laptop, tablet, or phone arrives — the old one is suddenly in the way, and there’s nowhere easy to put it.
This is why January is consistently the highest-volume month for electronics disposal.
Flat screens and CRTs both come through in volume in January. CRT monitors are heavy and require special handling — they can't go in regular trash.
Old machines you're done with. We route electronics to certified e-waste processors — not standard landfill. Wipe personal data before we pick up if you're concerned.
The printer that stopped working six months ago and has been in a closet since. The monitor from the old desktop. These accumulate — January is the natural clearing point.
The treadmill from the last resolution. Takes a whole room. One of our top calls every January — and one of the heavier lifts we do.
The January Window for Space-Clearing Resolutions
Junk removal and January resolutions are a natural pairing. Creating a home gym means something else goes out first. The “get organized” resolution usually starts with a garage or storage room. “Simplify” often begins with a sofa that’s been replaced but not removed.
The first two weeks of January have more open slots than mid-month. By the time most people act on a resolution — around January 10–14 — availability gets tighter. Book before New Year’s if you have a specific date in mind.
What We Do With Electronics
Electronics go to certified e-waste processors where accepted. We don’t put electronics in general landfill. Items that still have useful life are evaluated for donation through local partners when possible — though functional electronics aren’t always accepted depending on age and condition.
